As ever, Madison has given us a challenge with her latest Friday Fictioneers picture. I struggled with this one and eventually fell back on a theme I used in one of my Booker’s Seven stories. I’m not sure I love it, but I’ll be interested to see what feedback it gets, good or bad.
Take and Give
“It’s heart-breaking. Couldn’t we keep just one?” Marian turned a pink sapphire over in her hand. “They’re so pretty.”
“Never mind pretty,” said Will. “I’m thinking of that reward.”
Robin sighed. “Look, we agreed when we did this; it wasn’t for us, it was for the needy. One stone per envelope, let’s do it.”
“I’m suddenly starting to feel needy,” said Will, shoving a ruby into an envelope. “We’d be rich.”
“Right up until we got caught, yeah. One family turning in all the stones – they’d know it was us. This way, they pay, we’re safe.”
“And poor,” sighed Will.
